If you look at the right sidebar of this website you will notice an ad for this year’s Catalyst Conference.  Catalyst is more than just a conference, it is an amazing move of God for Next Generation Christian leaders.  The emphasis of October’s event is “Be Present”.  Please take a moment on click on the Catalyst box to learn more about this unforgettable gathering.

Brad Lomenick, who heads up Catalyst, asked a number of us to take a moment and blog about what the phrase “Be Present” means to us personally.  I’m glad to give my thoughts.

As I write this post I am looking at my wife and daughter on our sofa just across from me.  They are watching Soul Surfer.  I am blogging.  Would they think I’m present?

Do they know how often I thought of them today?  Or how I couldn’t wait to come home to see them?  Do they know how much I enjoy hearing about their day?  Or hearing their voice?  Do they know how much they make me laugh and bring me unspeakable joy?  Do they?

Does my daughter think of me and my computer like I thought of my dad and the newspaper?  Does she think I come home only to exchange the knowledge of how she is thinking and feeling for whatever the latest blog post provides?  I pulled down my father’s newspaper once.  Will she close my computer?

Does my wife know that other than Jesus she is the most important person in my life?  Does my wife know that I would rather snuggle with her than my computer?  Does she know that I think she is the most beautiful woman in the world?  Does she?

If I’m present, they will know how I feel and what I’m thinking.  If I’m not present, I can only hope so.

I’m logging off now.  I’m going to snuggle up with two beautiful females (a third if you count our Jack Russell terrier) and enjoy family movie night.  I’m going to be present.
