Today I am being dispatched by Injoy Stewardship Solutions (ISS) to attend the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast. In an effort to grow in my skills to better add value to pastors and church leaders, I will be live blogging throughout.
The fourth speaker was Laura Schroff, author of the book An Invisible Thread. The following are her thoughts on Beyond You leadership:
- Those three simple words – “I am hungry” – changed my life.
- Maurice was trapped in desperate cycle of poverty and drugs.
- We lived two blocks apart but from two vastly different worlds.
- It has almost brought me an enormous amount of comfort that my mother brought us (Maurice and I) together.
- My father was a good man and had a big heart but when he drank, his darkest demons came out and he became very violent.
- Anything is possible if you’re determined, focused, willing to work hard and most important, have a dream.
- “The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.” – Ernest Hemingway
- Friendship is something too many of us take for granted.
- When people come to school and there lunch is in a brown paper bag, it means someone cares about them.
- What’s in a brown paper bag is love.
- These unexpected moments are blessings when we decide to go beyond ourselves and reach out to another person.
- When you give kindness and expect nothing in return you can receive the most beautiful gifts of all.
- As leaders, we have the profound ability to have impact of the lives of those around us.
- What brought me so much joy is Maurice’s cycle has finally be broken.
- I’m only here because I acted on a Beyond You moment.
- Then if we are all students of life then we can all learn to be a little kinder and a little more compassionate…but we must lead by example.
- An invisible thread connects those destined to meet.
- Kindness can change lives.
