Today I am being dispatched by Injoy Stewardship Solutions (ISS) to attend the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast.  In an effort to grow in my skills to better add value to pastors and church leaders, I will be live blogging throughout.

The third session’s first speakers were Bill Rancic and Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu.  The following are their comments:

Bill Rancic

  1. In our house we have one simple rule – Family First.
  2. We’ve had health challenges.  My wife had breast cancer…My main job was to help her make the best decisions possible.
  3. For us it’s Faith First.
  4. If it doesn’t feel right we don’t do it.
  5. Live with no regret.
  6. “I’ll support you with whatever decision you make but the day you don’t make a decision, I’ll fire you.” – Donald Trump
  7. Use your platform wisely.
  8. We will use our platform for good, not evil.

Naoimi Tutu on lessons learned from her father Archbishop Desmond Tutu

  1. How you treat others is a measure of you as a human being.
  2. Always go back into the kitchen and thank those who cooked for you.
  3. As a leader it’s not just the work you’ve done.  It’s the hundreds of those who helped you.
  4. You need to encourage people wherever you find them to recognize their own gifts.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu

  1. The Nelson Mandella that emerged from prison was extraordinarily accommodating.
  2. He went out of his way to do symbolic acts of reconciliation with all South Africans.
  3. Imagine a world where decisions were made not just by strategy, but what was best for all involved.
  4. We practice the golden rule of reciprocity.
  5. I need others to help me become a person.
  6. We are made for each other.  For inter-connectedness.  We are made to be dependent one upon another.
  7. When confronted with systemic abuses of power across the world, the power to make leaders rest in the hands of the people.
  8. Brutality hurts the brutalizers and those brutalized.  No one escapes unscathed.
  9. Good leaders listen.  They listen to all.  They act in the good of all.
  10. Good leaders are accountable.  They have nothing to hide.
  11. Good leaders lead.  Leaders are there to navigate.  To guide.  To support.  Good leaders know the way.
  12. Good leaders know when to retire.
