Today I am being dispatched by Injoy Stewardship Solutions (ISS) to attend the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast. In an effort to grow in my skills to better add value to pastors and church leaders, I will be live blogging throughout.
The third session’s first speakers were Bill Rancic and Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The following are their comments:
Bill Rancic
- In our house we have one simple rule – Family First.
- We’ve had health challenges. My wife had breast cancer…My main job was to help her make the best decisions possible.
- For us it’s Faith First.
- If it doesn’t feel right we don’t do it.
- Live with no regret.
- “I’ll support you with whatever decision you make but the day you don’t make a decision, I’ll fire you.” – Donald Trump
- Use your platform wisely.
- We will use our platform for good, not evil.
Naoimi Tutu on lessons learned from her father Archbishop Desmond Tutu
- How you treat others is a measure of you as a human being.
- Always go back into the kitchen and thank those who cooked for you.
- As a leader it’s not just the work you’ve done. It’s the hundreds of those who helped you.
- You need to encourage people wherever you find them to recognize their own gifts.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
- The Nelson Mandella that emerged from prison was extraordinarily accommodating.
- He went out of his way to do symbolic acts of reconciliation with all South Africans.
- Imagine a world where decisions were made not just by strategy, but what was best for all involved.
- We practice the golden rule of reciprocity.
- I need others to help me become a person.
- We are made for each other. For inter-connectedness. We are made to be dependent one upon another.
- When confronted with systemic abuses of power across the world, the power to make leaders rest in the hands of the people.
- Brutality hurts the brutalizers and those brutalized. No one escapes unscathed.
- Good leaders listen. They listen to all. They act in the good of all.
- Good leaders are accountable. They have nothing to hide.
- Good leaders lead. Leaders are there to navigate. To guide. To support. Good leaders know the way.
- Good leaders know when to retire.
