Every family has its axioms. Every family has statements which define them. Every family has mantras. In our home, one of our axioms is “On Sunday the Dodd family goes to church.”
It is not up for debate. If you are tired and need rest, manage your time well and rest on Saturday. On Sunday the Dodd family goes to church. Except for today.
I was unable to go to church though my wife and daughter did. Therefore, I watched Life.Church last evening (more on that later this week) and North Point Community Church online this morning.
North Point is currently in a message series entitled “See The World”. Their goal is for people to see the world as God sees the world. This morning, Andy Stanley preached a message on money and possessions. He asks those watching and in attendance, “Is how you see your money and possessions the same as how God sees your money and possessions?”
During the month of June, I am focusing on Apex Leaders, those who are at the top of their professions. Make sure you read each post in this collection. As a preacher and communicator, no one is better than Andy. He is an Apex Preacher and Communicator.
The following are 42 Quotes And Lessons From Andy Stanley On Money And Possessions from Luke 16:1-14. I have added additional leadership statements in bold prior to his quotes.
- The Songs Pointed To The Central Message Truths Of Eternity And That God Can Be Trusted – The songs included Good Good Father and How Great Is Our God.
- The Baptism Pointed To The Central Message Truths Of Eternity And That God Can Be Trusted – The songs were followed by an incredible video and subsequent baptism of Patrick. Upon hearing the message of the Gospel, he said, “I hope God can be trusted.” Patrick quit his job that week so he could spend more time with his family and live a life pleasing to God. He now tells everyone with great assurance that God truly can be trusted in every area of your life.
- Andy Lays The Foundation Of Message With A Fundamental Truth – He quoted Stephen Covey by saying, “We see the world not as it is but as the way we are.”
- Andy Acknowledges Non-Christians Are In The Room – “Here’s what you should know if you’re thinking of becoming a Christian.”
- Andy Makes Points Memorable By Using Repetition – “When we see as God sees we are more inclined to do as God says.”
- Andy Makes Points Memorable By Using Contrast – “We all start with ‘Do as I say.’ But when you get past childhood, it needs to be ‘Do as I see.'”
- God Wants You To See Money As Possessions Just Like He Does – “Your Heavenly Father wants you to see the world as He sees it…Jesus actually came into this world to help people see the world as God sees it.”
- Andy Continually Pointed To Jesus – “You cannot get any closer to God than Jesus.”
- Andy Invites People Into The Text By Asking A Question About Their Immediate And Distant Future – “What can I do now to prepare for my future?”
- Andy Makes Points Memorable By Using Repetition – As Andy read through Luke 16, he noted on two different occasions the poor manager would hear, “Thank you so much. Let me know if there is ever anything I can do for you.”
- Good Money Managers Effectively Use Time And Opportunity – “He had time and opportunity and used it wisely.”
- Andy Continually Built Tension – As he read the passage he kept noting how the Pharisees and crowd were “leaning in”, “shocked”, “on the edge of their seats” and even told those watching to “pay attention”.
- You Engage People With Questions, Not Just Answers – “Do you want to know what God thinks about how I should use my money?”

- “What do you have and how can you use it?”
- Some Things You Own Need To Be Redeployed. They Have No Eternal Value – “What do you have that can’t be used? What do you have that needs to be redeployed?”

- When Thinking About Money And Possessions, Think With The End In Mind – “You’re not going to get to the end of your life and wish you would have gave less and consumed more.”
