A Quiet Place is absolutely riveting. The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters inhabit the earth and attack anything making a sound. Starring Jon Krasinski (who also directed) and Emily Blount, the film centers around their family’s attempt to survive in a world of silence and to seek redemption from each other for a tragedy in the movie’s opening scene. This movie is going to have some Oscar momentum (acting, directing, sound) by the end of the year.
There is no foul language or nudity. However, it is very intense with some startling moments. In particular, the bathroom scene is an unbelievable as anything you will see this year on screen! If you are looking for something very creative and will keep you on the edge of your seat, I highly recommend this movie.
The following are 10 Leadership Lessons And Quotes From A Quiet Place:
- Successful Leaders Make Critical Decisions With Limited Information – The movie does not explain where the monsters came from or have the Abbotts have survived this far. At the end of the day, I did not require that information to enjoy the movie.
- Silence Is Uncomfortable And Causes Tension – Try sitting next to someone and not talking on purpose. Or try sitting in your car for long stretches of time with no phone or radio. Human beings struggle with prolonged (30 seconds) periods of silence.
- Brevity Is Your Friend – Most movies, conversations and books are longer than they need to be. This movie has a lot packed into 90 minutes. The film’s length allowed me to got out in time to watch The Masters. A win all around!
- Great Teams Have Great Chemistry – High-performing teams care about each other. The real-life marriage between Krasinski and Blount is palpable when watching them on-screen.
- Sometimes The Best Thing To Say Is Nothing At All – In the post-apocalyptic world the Abbotts live in, any sound has the potential of getting the killed. A lot of people will survive more meetings, social events, and family gatherings is they say nothing at all. And much like the monsters in A Quiet Place, the Twitter mob will destroy you if you say the wrong thing publicly.
- Each One Of Us Have A Unique Set Of Skills To Offer – Regan, the Abbotts’s deaf daughter played by Millicent Simmonds, happens to be deaf in real-life. Her performance brings a unique authenticity to this film.
- The Most Important Relationship You Will Ever Have Is With Your Father – Boys are wired to have their father’s imprint from the moment of birth. They will spend their entire life yearning for and searching for it. Girls desperately seek their father’s approval as well. God has just given fathers unique influence in their children’s lives.
- The Primary Role Of Leadership Is To Protect Its People – Evelyn said, “Who are we if we can’t protect them? We have to protect them.”
- No Leader Is Perfect – The monsters appear to have no weakness but as the movie progressed, this proved to be untrue. Similarly, no leader is perfect either. We all have weaknesses and areas which need improvement.
- The Number One Need Everyone Has Is The Need For Forgiveness And Redemption – Just before the conclusion of the movie, two family members seeks the redemption they so desperately needed.
Once again, I highly recommend A Quiet Place. Before we get into the popcorn movies of the summer, this is a nice edge-of-your seat thriller you need to see.
