In my new book Timeless: 10 Enduring Practices Of Apex Leaders, I noted the most common trait of apex leaders was they built great teams. I then make the claim the greatest team ever assembled is not a sports team or collection of corporate all-stars. The greatest team ever assembled is The Trinity – God the Father, God the Son Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit. Three distinct persons making up the one true God.
No single post or collection of books could ever adequately explain the Trinity. With that said, the following are just 10 Characteristics Of The Greatest Team Of All-Time:
- Great Teams Produce Great Results – “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”‘ – Genesis 1:26
- Great Teams Deeply Care For Each Other – “And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” – Matthew 3:16-17
- Great Teams Have A Great Purpose – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” – Matthew 28:19
- Great Teams Are Made Up Of People Who Serve One Another – “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” – Luke 22:42. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45
- Great Teams Have Great Cultures. The People Are Pictures Of The Leader. – “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” – John 14:9-11
- Great Teams Have Great Unity – “I and the Father are one.” – John 10:30
- Great Teams Are Made Up Of People Who Always Help Each Other – “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” – John 14:16-17 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” – John 14:26
- Great Teams Are Made Up Of People Who Always Honor Each Other – “When the Helper comes, whom I [Jesus] will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me . . .” – John 15:26
- Great Teams Are Places Of Great Joy – “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.” – Romans 14:17-18
- Great Teams Are Made Up Of Humble Leaders – “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:5-11
