“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1:8 (ESV)

The following 30 Keys To A Leader’s Success .  The final 21 were written H. Jackson Brown Jr. I discovered these on a poster I saw in a restaurant.

  1. Read the Bible every day, both the Old and New Testament, and do every thing it says.
  2. Work on your character as much or more than your skills.
  3. Be more concerned with making others successful than making yourself successful.
  4. Put your family first.
  5. Pray, pray, pray.
  6. Guard your heart and mind.
  7. Keep short accounts and be quick to say, “I’m sorry.  I was wrong.”
  8. Tithe.  “You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.” – Malachi 3:9-12 (ESV)
  9. Stretch yourself by hanging around people smarter and more talented than you are.
  10. Marry the right person.  This one decision will determine 90% of your happiness or misery.
  11. Work at something you enjoy and that’s worthy of your time and talent.
  12. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
  13. Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.
  14. Be forgiving of yourself and others.
  15. Be generous.
  16. Have a grateful heart.
  17. Persistence, persistence, persistence.
  18. Discipline yourself to save money on even the most modest salary.
  19. Treat everyone you meet like you want to be treated.
  20. Commit yourself to constant improvement.
  21. Commit yourself to quality.
  22. Understand that happiness is not based on possessions, power or prestige, but on relationships with people you love and respect.
  23. Be loyal.
  24. Be honest.
  25. Be a self-starter.
  26. Be decisive even if it means you’ll sometimes be wrong.
  27. Stop blaming others.  Take responsibility for every area of your life.
  28. Be bold and courageous.  When you look back on your life, you’ll regret the things you didn’t do more than the ones you did.
  29. Take good care of those you love.
  30. Don’t do anything that wouldn’t make your mom proud.

What is one thing you would add to the list above on being successful?
