Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is my pick to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy.  He is that talented and charismatic.

Earlier this year I wrote the post Nick Saban, Tua Tagovailoa, And The Most Courageous Decision A Leader Can Make.  This article centered on Coach Saban’s decision to insert the then-freshman quarterback into the second half of January’s college football championship game.  The results were another championship for the Crimson Tide and the legend of Tua Tagovailoa was born.

As incredible a quarterback Tua is, his Christian faith is what makes him truly great leader.  Tua has a contagious love for Jesus Christ and is using his influence for God’s glory.  To get a picture of his passion for Christ, read the provided quotes taken from the video above as well as articles from Rivals.com, YellowHammerNews.com, and LightWorkers.com.

The following are 11 Quotes And Lessons On The Faith And Leadership Of Tua Tagovailoa:

  1. Jesus Christ Is First And Foremost – In the video above, Tua says, “First and foremost I’d like to thank my Savior, Jesus Christ.”
  2. With God All Things Are Possible – Quoting Philippians 4:13, Tua said, “With Him all things are possible.”
  3. All Glory Goes To God – Tua added, “All glory goes to God.”
  4. Jesus Christ Is Indescribable – Tua continues, “I can’t describe what He’s done for me and my family. Who would’ve ever thought I would’ve been here right now in this moment?”
  5. Godly Leaders Are Thankful Leaders – Tua concludes, “And I thank God for that.”
  6. The State Of Alabama’s Christian Culture Gave Tua A Sense Of Security When Selecting A College – Tua noted, “A lot of people are rooted in the word over here just like back home.  The Southern hospitality is almost the same as the love and the kindness that they show back at home.”  Also, in a recent study by the Pew Research Center, Alabama tied with Mississippi as the most religious state in the union, with 77% of adults claiming they are “highly religious.”  Alabama is also first in the number of people who believe in God, with 82% saying they believe in God “with absolute certainty.”
  7. Christian Coaches Are A Competitive Advantage – People do not talk about Coach Saban’s’ faith often but Tua told SEC Country,Coach (Nick) Saban has talked to us and his beliefs are God first before anything.  Every school is going to have good academics. Every school is going to have good football. But when you have a coach like Saban, who believes in God and is a defending champion, that makes it even more special.”
  8. Christian Cultures Are Also A Competitive Advantage – No one wants to acknowledge this but it is true.  Tua told AL.com, “There were so many things, but the most important one is when I went to church with one of the coaches. It was amazing to see coaches going to church. I got to see players going to church. It was amazing to see. I was raised going to church every Sunday. The atmosphere over there, it’s just amazing over there.”
  9. Church Attendance Is Of Ultimate Importance For Growing Christians – Tua told KHON2, “I feel like I’m home over there.  Everybody on Sunday goes to church and that’s something big in my life as far as spirituality. I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
  10. Christians Embrace Competition And Want To Play Against The Very Best – Tua said “You have to go places to compete, so why not come to the best place?  You want to play with the best, I guess. That’s kind of my thing. Anywhere you go, you’re going to have to compete.”
  11. Platforms Are To Be Used For God’s Glory And Agenda, Not Your Own – Tua concludes, “Just being able to use what God has given me as a platform for his glory and his glory only.”

I love Christian coaches and Christian programs.  Therefore, I am rooting for another Alabama vs. Clemson championship game.  How about you?
