Today, as part of Piedmont Church’s message series on the family, the church’s Family Pastor Nate Galloway delivered an incredible message on the subject of biblical marriage.

Nate is simply one of the finest Christian leaders I know.  He has as much integrity, humility, brokenness and kindness as anyone you will ever meet.  He has been tested by trials and hardship and proved faithful.  Nate is a dear friend and fantastic preacher.  And finally, he is an incredible husband to Andrea and father to his four children as you can see from the tweet above.

From my perspective, you will never find a more qualified person to preach on the subject of biblical marriage than Nate Galloway.  The following are 24 leadership quotes from his life-changing message.  See if you don’t agree.

  1. Why did you get married?  Why are you still married?  To know the answer matters.
  2. Your know your Why will determine your What.
  3. Marriage is not a strategy for finding wholeness… I saw a movie where the person said, “You complete me.”  I thought that was a great statement but the problem is it’s just not true.  Marriage cannot complete us.
  4. You can’t find salvation in a person.  You find it in Jesus.
  5. Marriage is not an escape from boredom and something you check off a list.
  6. It should never be the next thing to do.
  7. Marriage is not a cure for loneliness.  When lonely single people get married they become lonely married people.
  8. You don’t want the marriage we can create.  We want the best marriage God can give us.  Many of us have left God out of our marriage.
  9. When we invite God into our marriage, God gives our marriage purpose.  Many of us don’t know what marriage is supposed to be.
  10. My wife is my best friend.
  11. Parts of God’s purpose is we have children, not a bunch of babies, but raising Godly kids, God worshippers.
  12. Being a parent matters.  How you raise your kids matters.
  13. God actually placed a calling on you as a couple.  Most of us are not walking in that.
  14. Gen, 1:28 – I (God) I have a job for you.   A mission for you.  A calling.  This is what’s missing from a lot of our marriages.
  15. Only 6% of Christian couples pray together.
  16. That one choice, just to pray together as a couple, will have more impact than anything.
  17. The relationship between a husband and wife is the one thing God instituted to show what it is like to have a relationship with Him.
  18. When we invite God into our marriage, God gives us grace.
  19. When marriage is good, it’s really good.  When marriage is bad, it’s really bad.
  20. Marriage involves two broken, sinful people carrying a lot of baggage and that’s hard.  The only thing that can keep them together is grace.  The only place to find grace is God.
  21. There is a God who is for you, if for your marriage.
  22. You remember the last time you fought in your marriage.  When is the last time you fought for your marriage?
  23. If you look to God for the “Why”, He will help you with the “What”.
  24. When your marriage is better, everything is better.

If you are married, there are a lot of questions to answer this week:

  • Why did you get married?
  • Why do you stay married?
  • Is Jesus the center of your marriage?
  • Do you have a plan as a parent for populating the world with Godly children?
  • Do you know God’s calling on your marriage?
  • Do you and your spouse pray together?

This was just a great, great message.  Please click HERE to watch online.
