Tonight, I saw Godzilla: King Of Monsters.  In a monster movie like this, the human beings can’t make it a great film.  But human beings can make it a bad film by focusing on them rather than I don’t know – Godzilla!!!  And that is what happened.

Let me try to explain the plot.  Five years after Godzilla destroyed San Francisco, the world has seen an increase in prehistoric monsters called titans.  A group called Monarch is trying to protect and co-exist with them.  Dr. Emma Russell, played by Vera Farmiga, has developed a device called the ORCA.  In theory, ORCA allows us to communicate and control the titans.  This is when things go off the rails.

Dr. Russell and her daughter then join forces with eco-terrorist Jonah Alan, played by Charles Dance.  Together, they want to use the ORCA to wake up the all the dormant titans and re-right/re-order the planet.   Dr. Russell’s estranged husband Mark, played by Kyle Chandler, is introduced to help retrieve the ORCA and their daughter.

Here is Leadership Lesson #1 – Give The People What They Want.  I did not come to Godzilla for that.  I paid good, hard-earned money to watch Godzilla fight other very large monsters.  More monsters, less people.

A few other thoughts.  There is one f-bomb and a couple go GDs.  All needless.  Honestly, I would just wait for the movie to come to FX, FXX, or TNT.

In closing, if you want to see a movie this weekend, go see Avengers: Endgame again of just spend time with your family as you wait for X-Men: Dark Phoenix next weekend.

The following are 8 additional Leadership Quotes From Godzilla: King Of Monsters:

  1. Smart Leaders Are Self-Aware Leaders – During a Senate hearing, Dr. Serizawa, played by Ken Watanabe, was asked about the coexistence with titans, “So you’d want to make Godzilla our pet.”  He replied, “No. We would be his.”
  2. Successful Leaders Take Personal Responsibility For Results – Sadly, the movie had a moment where it bogged down into the tired blame-game of  humans are destroying the planet and its our fault.  Dr. Russell said, “Our world is changing. The mass extinction we feared… Has already begun. And we are the cause. We are the infection.  But like all living organisms, the earth unleashed a fever to fight this infection.”
  3. All Leaders Sit Down To A Banquet Of Consequences – Alan said, “We opened Pandora’s box. And there’s no closing it now.”
  4. Leaders Are Known By Their Actions – Dr. Russell’s daughter told her, “You’re a monster.”  To which she replied, “I’m sorry.”
  5. Dr. Serizawa said, “The moments of crisis are also potential moments of faith.”
  6. Dr. Serizawa said, “Man does not control nature and neither do you.”
  7. Great Leaders Put The Good Of The Organization Ahead Of Their Personal Interest – Dr. Serizawa sacrificed himself by delivering a nuclear bomb to an ailing Godzilla.
  8. Everything Rises And Falls On Leadership – Dr. Russell said, “Long live the king.”

Once again, this is just not a very good movie.  I would wait to see it on cable.
