Tonight, I had the privilege of hearing my daughter and favorite worship leader Anna help lead in First Baptist Church Woodstock’s midweek high school service. The video is shown above. This also allowed me to reconnect with FBCW’s incredible youth pastor Robby Lewis.
It was a brief exchange as he was obviously working and needed to spend his time with the students, not some 53-year-old guy! However, as I watched him in action I was reminded why he is such an effective youth pastor.
The following are 7 Signs Of An Incredible Youth Pastor I was reminded of by observing Robby Lewis:
- Incredible Youth Pastors Are Out Front – Robby was on the sidewalk in front of the youth building welcoming the young people as they arrived. He was not hiding in the back or spending time with just the popular kids.
- Incredible Youth Pastors Have Great Attitudes – Attitude is the great separator of people. Robby had a huge smile on his face and was genuinely excited to be there and see everyone. He is the kind of youth pastor you want to drop your child off to.
- Incredible Youth Pastors Know Their Kids’ Names – FBCW had probably 300 young people at their midweek service. As he was welcoming everyone to the service, he seemed to call each person by name.
- Incredible Youth Pastors Teach the Bible – Robby taught an incredible message from James 1. His message was not a TED Talk with a Bible verse. It was good enough for any adult audience.
- Incredible Youth Pastors Raise The Standards – Robby was dropping one truth bomb after another. I especially appreciated how he challenged the audience to not complain about the school or church they were in. God placed them there for a reason and it was to bring Him glory.
- Incredible Youth Pastors Lead Young People To Christ – Robby called for a commitment at the end of the service and seemed to have a great response.
- Most Young People Don’t Know How Incredibly Lucky To Have An Incredible Youth Pastor – Well, these are high schoolers after all and there was a certain amount of goofing off in the back. My wife and I commented how these kids probably have no idea how lucky they are to be in a Gospel-centered church like First Baptist Church Woodstock and have a youth pastor like Robby Lewis. Maybe they will be like me and figure it out years later.
