Smart organizations are always looking for great young leaders.  Young leaders provide an organization new insights, creativity, and sustainability.  But do you know what to look for when searching for a great young leader?

This past weekend, ESPN College Gameday profiled Jake Fromm, the University of Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback.  The segment, which is shown above, focused on his leadership ability.  As I watched Fromm’s story, I gleaned the following 11 Signs Of A Great Young Leader:

  1. Great Young Leaders Are Vocal – Running back D’Andre Swift said, “Jake is a natural leaders.  He’s just always loud.”
  2. Great Young Leaders Have High Energy And Make Things Happen – Defensive back Eric Stokes said, “He’s always running around, screaming, singing, doing everything.”
  3. Great Young Leaders Take Advantage Of The Opportunities They Are Given – Fromm says, “You can’t go broke taking a profit.”
  4. Great Young Leaders Have Positive Attitudes – Wide receiver Tyler Simmons, “He’s probably the most positive person I’ve ever met.”
  5. Great Young Leaders Have Self-Confidence – Head coach Kirby Smart noted Fromm’s “Experience.  Confidence.”
  6. Great Young Leaders Make Others Better – Fromm added, “I always want to have a positive influence on people and bring people up to help their game.”
  7. Great Young Leaders Are Demanding Of Others – Smart added, “I don’t think you can be a good leader until you’re extremely competitive and really tough and have an ability to confront and demand.”
  8. Great Young Leaders Keep Things Simple – Fromm said, “I’m going to keep it super simple.  What’s the mission?  How do you win the football game?”
  9. Great Young Leaders Take Care Of Others – Fromm continued, “And number two, take care of my teammates.”
  10. Great Young Leaders Give People A Sense Of Security – Smart concluded, “Everybody believes this guy is going to lead us, this guy is going to take us to victory.  He’s going to be there when things get tough.”
  11. Great Young Leaders Produce Results – Gameday host Rece Davis summed it up when he said, “That dude just wins.”

What is one thing you learned from Jake Fromm about being a great young leader?
