  3. People are shocked by how much intimacy and spiritual growth you can have in a chat room…. People are more open and vulnerable in that chat than they are passing somebody in a lobby.
  4. A lot of time the leader makes it about the leader. The leader should make it about the people and about the mission.
  5. We feel so much pressure as leaders… People would rather follow a leader who is always real than a leader who is always right.
  6. Everyone wins when a leader gets better.

Dr. Henry Cloud – Dr. Cloud is an acclaimed leadership expert, clinical psychologist and New York Times bestselling author. His 45 books, including the iconic Boundaries, have sold nearly 15 million copies worldwide.

  1. Leaders, right now you have two jobs. You are a leader and you are a psychologist.
  2. We need to get the brain back to normal.
  3. The foundation of humans is their sense of connection – Connected to God and connected to others.
  4. A pandemic blows apart all of your connections.
  5. Humans have a frame. We operate according to structure.  Structure is time and place and how our lives are ordered.
  6. In a pandemic, your structures and routines are gone.
  7. Humans are designed to be control freaks.
  8. God meant us for self-control, to control our choices. There are no more choices in a pandemic.
  9. As a leader, you have got to lead in the way humans are constructed.
  10. A leader during these times, one of your big roles is communication. You must communicate with empathy.
  11. You’ve got to show that you do not operate in a vacuum.
  12. You have to add structure. We’ve got to have some meetings and a sense of structure.  Leadership is field dependent.  In chaos, you need to add structure.
  13. Don’t let your employees feel powerless.
  14. What’s the difference in the first 10 minutes between a small group and an executive team meeting?Hopefully, not a lot.
  15. We know who wins.
  16. The haves and the have-nots are starting to blur right now.

Patrick Lencioni – Pat is one of the founders of The Table Group and is the pioneer of the organizational health movement. He is the author of 11 books, which have sold over 6 million copies, including his latest The Motive: Why So Many Leaders Abdicate Their Most Important Responsibilities.

  1. Ditch professionalism. Embrace personalism.
  2. Every organization is going to emerge from this stronger than before or weaker than before. No one will be unchanged.
  3. God gives us blessings wrapped in packages we don’t see sometimes.
  4. The best Zoom calls are hangouts. Keep them opening and just work.  It’s socialized work.  Zoom is not a meeting tool.  It is a platform for social interaction.
  5. The opportunity to deepen the trust with the people we work with on our leadership teams. Trust will either be deepened or teams will unravel.
  6. Efficiency and professionalism are four-letter words right now. We need to replace them with effectiveness and personalism.
  7. If we don’t slow down we will never be productive during this time.
  8. We cannot perform at our best unless we’re pouring into our teams.
  9. We cannot overlook the human element here.
  10. Are you pouring into your people now in very inefficient ways?
  11. We’re all a little bit afraid because we don’t want to lose our affection for one another.
  12. Be exceedingly human.
  13. In all of this are blessings and we need to nurture those.
  14. Lean into improving the trust on your team. Create a rallying cry.  Make sure your meetings are platforms for social interaction.  Don’t make them efficient.  Make them effective.
  15. It’s not about being smart as it is about being effective.
  16. Let’s rally to try to save some people’s jobs.
