During the COVID-19 crisis I have had the privilege of bringing you leadership insights from many of my most-trusted voices.  There are few voices I trust more than the brilliant and incomparable executive pastor of 12Stone Church, Dan Reiland.  Anytime Dan speaks, I listen.  Whatever Dan writes, I read.  I cannot tell you how much I admire this simply delightful human being.

Dan recently wrote the wonderful book Confident Leader!: Become One, Stay One.  During these turbulent times, leaders need the lessons contained in this book more than ever.  To assist leaders better apply the content, Dan also produced a series of supplemental coaching videos.  The most recent one is shown above.

During this video, he recounts an interesting story of traveling with John Maxwell and several other VIPs.  His insights on how you should behave when around Apex Leaders are profound and yet, quite practical.  This video is a must-watch for all developing leaders.  And if you haven’t picked up his book, do so TODAY by clicking HERE or on the image at the bottom of this post.

The following are Dan Reiland’s 15 Things You Should Do When You Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders I gleaned from the video above.  #13 is my favorite!  All quotes are from Dan.

  3. Learn Something When You Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders – “and just listen and learn.”
  4. Listen To What Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders Are Talking About – “The conversation was just fascinating.”
  5. Allow Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders To Challenge You And Make You Better – “There was not much small talk and intuitively, instinctively went towards an iron-sharpens-iron kind of conversation.”
  6. Stay Mentally Sharp And Never Relax When You Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders – “They had far more interest in thinking instead of relaxing”
  7. Focus On The Future When You Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders – “always going towards the future rather than talking about the past.”

  10. Learn To Think BIG When You Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders – “What really stood out to me more than anything else was how big they thought.  The size of their thinking, the size of their thoughts.”
  11. Be Encouraged Because Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders Have Difficult Times Also – “In those times (difficult times as a leader), instead of bouncing back, I kind of pulled back from a setback.  And that made my thinking smaller which made my leadership smaller.”
  12. Expand Your Thinking (Under Pressure) When You Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders – “I had to learn how to expand my thinking under pressure.”
  13. Make It A Habit To Be Around Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders – “How do you expand your thinking under pressure.  You’ve gotta get around leaders who think bigger than you do.”
  14. Learn How Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders Think – “Take a problem (to them), rather than focusing on just what they say on how they would solve the problem, focus on how they think.  That’s how you learn to think bigger.”
  15. Bigger, Stronger And Faster Leaders Will Elevate Your Resilience And Give You Leadership Confidence – “This will raise or elevate your resilience which will help your leadership confidence and will make a significant difference in your leadership and your ministry.”
