2020 was as difficult a year of leadership as we have experienced.  Words like “disruption”, “pivot”, and “unprecedented” became standard verbiage.  In the midst of this chaos and confusion, many writers brought healthy perspectives which helped us navigate these times.

The following are The Top 10 Leadership Posts I Read The Entire Year Of 2020:

  1. Can The Pandemic Be An Answered Prayer? by Rosaria Butterfield via DesiringGod.org.  This should make you rethink COVID and its impact on 2020!!!
  2. Tony Evans Focuses On ‘Divine Reset’ Amid Coronavirus Ministry by Caleb Parke via FoxNews.com.  Similar to the first post.  This is simply a masterpiece!
  3. Praying For Wuhan by ChinaSource Team.  Must-read post from United Prayer Group of Church Pastors in Wuhan Appeals to Chinese Christians for Three Days of Fasting and Prayer because of the coronavirus epidemic and its early impact on China. Unbelievably sad!!!
  4. A Respectful Response To My Friend John Piper About Voting For Trump by Wayne Grudem via ChristianPost.com.  The presidential election brought out the best and worst in our Christian leaders.
  5. Excuse Me John Piper, But Pride Doesn’t Kill Babies by Abby Johnson via ChristianPost.com.  More on Piper and his controversial comments.
  6. Post-Pandemic Pastors And The Sin Of Silence by Shane Idleman.  Perhaps the most important post I read in 2020!  Every pastor should read this.  Pastors can no longer remain neutral, you must take a stand.
  7. Bill Belichick’s ‘Tilting’ Lesson For Us from Mike Lombardi via The Daily Coach is a great article!!!  Every leader who is currently dealing with or has dealt with failure should read this.
  8. Barna: We’re Experiencing Another Reformation, And Not In A Good Way by Jessica Mouser via ChurchLeaders.com.  As the data shows, biblical illiteracy is the #1 problem facing churches.  Not race.  Not politics.  Not other important topics.  Based on the data, 60% of people sitting in churches are not Christians.  This post is so alarming that it caused me to write 17 Reasons American Pastors And Church Leaders Are Asking AND Answering All The Wrong Questions.
  9. What Church Leaders Are (Really) Thinking In 2020 by Carey Nieuwhof.  Pastors never faced a tougher year than 2020 and many did not make it through the year.  Another post similar to this is 11 Confessions Of A Pastor In 2020 by Brandon Kelley via RookiePreacher.com.
  10. 1918 VS 2020: 5 Things We Can Learn From 1918 Church Leaders by Todd Rhoades via ChemistryStaffing.com.  This post put into perspective the issues church leaders faced this past year.  Bottom line – there is nothing new under the sun, including a pandemic affecting churches.

This is my Top 10 for the year.  What other great posts did you read?

During the 2019 college football season, fans were given a gift when legendary coach Urban Meyer joined Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff preview show as a studio analyst.  As a three-time national championship head coach, Coach Meyer’s ability to deliver complex leadership principles with brevity and concise terminology created a compelling experience for educated and “smart” fans.  Throughout the season, I captured Coach Meyer’s best leadership quotes from this weekly show.  I wanted to make them available to you in this new complimentary resource Urban Meyer 2019 Fox Sports Big Noon Kickoff Ebook.
