Overview

Tonight I was in attendance for the opening night showing of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.  If you saw the first film of the Venom series starring Tom Hardy, then you know what to expect and you will not be disappointed.

There are plenty of explosions, property damage, awkward moments, and over-the-top action.

In this installment (and there will be more), Hardy’s character Eddie Brock gets an exclusive interview with death row inmate Cletus Kasady played by Woody Harrelson.  Kasady bites Brock’s hand during their meeting and as a result, gets infected by his blood.  As he said, “I have tasted blood before. And that is not it!”  Of course not, it is symbiote blood!

Subsequently, Kasady turns into a symbiote himself, the evil Carnage.  Kasady also happens to have an evil girlfriend named Frances Barrison, played by Naomie Harris.  Barrison happens to reside if a maximum security prison as well.  She possesses an X-Men-like quality in which she can scream really loud causing significant damage to everyone and everything within earshot.  Together they are quite the pair!

When Venom and Carnage ultimately face-off, well, you can guess what happens.

I would say it is an average movie but there is one MAJOR surprise which I will elude to below.  Please note – this is a major *SPOILER* warning.

The following are 10 Leadership Quotes and Lessons From Venom: Let There Be Carnage:

Give The People What They Want

When you go see a Marvel movie entitled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, you want… carnage!!!  And Marvel delivered.  This film will not win an Academy Award for acting or the script.  But it does deliver over 90 minutes of entertainment and will allow you to take your mind off everything going on in the world.  Just go and don’t think too hard.  Have some fun.

Symbiotes (and all leaders for that matter) Function Better In A Healthy Symbiotic Relationship

The magic of the Venom movies is the relationship between Brock and Venom.  They are like any couple where two have become one.  Each one has preferences.  Sometimes one of the two wants to be left alone.  One doesn’t respect the other’s property.  There is even a scene in the movie where Venom even gets mad and leaves.  But they always talk it out and eventually get back together.

In contrast, Kasady and Carnage were not symbiotic.  They had significant issues over how to handle the screaming Barrison.

Leaders Are Always Looking For And Wanting To Increase Their Options

What do leaders want beside influence?  Options!  Brock and Venom had very few.  In fact, Venom said, “I live in your body because I don’t have many options.”  One of my favorite lines in the movie was Venom expressing frustration over his dietary restrictions (that’s a nice way to put it).  He said, “Lions do not eat salad.”

Leaders Are Not Always Granted The Time They Need For Mental And Emotional Health

The most important leadership abilities are availability, dependability, reliability, durability, responsibility, and accountability.  Much of these qualities can be described in two words – “Showing Up”.  Venom did not have much sympathy for Brock and his despair over losing his girlfriend.  He said, “Emotional pain is harder and much longer.  But you must pull up your big boy pants and take it.”  Not exactly a nurturing relationship!

But sometimes leaders are not afforded the luxury to explore their feelings.  They simply have to get back to work and drive the organization forward.  Once again – availability, dependability, reliability, durability, responsibility, and accountability.

Venom would add another – bigboypantsability.

Effective Leaders Are Responsible Leaders

Venom told Eddie, “Responsibility is for the mediocre.”  Unfortunately, Venom got that one wrong.  As previously mentioned, responsibility is one of the foundational elements of effective leadership.  At another point in the movie, Eddie emphatically reminded him, “You live in my body, you live by my rules!”

Last Impressions Last (WARNING – Spoiler Alert!!) Stop reading if you do not want to know the BIG twist.

As one of the detectives told Eddie, “Secrets want out.  That’s why they’re so hard to keep.”

Perhaps you have seen the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer.  If not, see below for this Christmas release.

As a result of the multi-verse created by Doctor Strange, you notice the incorporation of the Vulture and Doc-Oct villains from the Sony films into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Well, they are not the only ones incorporated into the Spider-Verse.  The post-credit scenes from Carnage introduce Venom into it as well.  Go ahead and get your tickets as soon as possible.

Once again, for what they are trying to accomplish, Venom: Let There Be Carnage does not disappoint.  Just have proper expectations.  So go and have a great time!

The Top 60 Leadership Quotes From 2021 Part 1 is my latest ebook.  For many entering a post-pandemic environment, leadership looks completely different than the pre-pandemic world.  People are more broken now. They are more uncertain. Fear and anxiousness are unwelcome constant companions. Cultures are more unhealthy. Relationships are more dysfunctional.  Hope seems to be in short supply.  Every day seems to bring a new hacking, natural disaster, or unexpected calamity.

Therefore, the fundamentals of leadership are more important than ever. The quotes in this book deal with the basics of leadership.  If you want to be the best leader you can possibly be, click HERE or on the image provided to download this FREE resource.  The lessons learned from last year, if applied, will sustain you for years to come.
