One of the things which makes a great organization is its disciplined commitment to high-performance thinking.  But what does organizational high-performance thinking look like?  How does it manifest itself?

I just finished Jack Nicklaus II and Don Yaeger’s excellent book Best Seat In The House: 18 Golden Lessons from a Father to His Son.  In these lessons, Nicklaus II shares what he learned from his legendary father about sports, life, faith, family, and business.  Trust me, this book would make a great gift for Father’s Day in a few months.

On page 56, Nicklaus II outlines what is called “The Nicklaus Way”.  This is Jack Sr.’s attempt to communicate what should be expected from him and all those who work for the Nicklaus Companies.  As Nicklaus II writes, “It has long been a cornerstone for employees, many of whom have been with Dad for thirty-plus years.”  After reading these words, many of these concepts should be cornerstones for your organization as well.

  • Employees must aspire to reflect and uphold the high standards of character established by Jack Nicklaus and fostered by the Nicklaus Family.
  • Inspired by and consistent the charitable legacy created by our company founders – Jack and Barbara Nicklaus – we will create our own legacy together.  Thus, we believe our success must be shared, celebrated and re-invested in the youth of our world and by the communities we serve.  This stewardship should be manifested with each service and produce we offer.
  • Our passion and vision for our company will lead us to superior customer service, will create opportunities for our employees, and separate us from our competitors.
  • We will earn the trust of our employees and customers by conducting our business with the highest ethics, values and morals.  Our success will be achieved without sacrificing integrity.
  • The genuine caring, respect and loyalty for each individual will inspire achievement and excellence in all we do.
  • We are responsible for and committed to the success of our customers, clients and partners.  In this endeavor, our efforts are unconditional and unwavering.

What is one thing you learned from the Nicklaus Companies which if implemented will make you a stronger organization?  Once again, to purchase Best Seat In The House: 18 Golden Lessons from a Father to His Sonclick HERE or on the image provided.  You will not be disappointed.
