National Orange Juice Day

Wednesday, May 4th is National Orange Juice Day.  As reported by Morning Brew, Tropicana is introducing a new product Tropicana Crunch.  Rather than your childhood favorites Captain Crunch, Sugar Smacks, and Fruity Pebbles, Tropicana Crunch is a cereal to be eaten with orange juice, not milk.

I know what you’re thinking and so do the people at Tropicana.  They said, “It may not be for everyone.”  That may be an understatement.

While you may or may not like orange juice with your cereal, you have to appreciate Tropicana from a leadership perspective.  This decision to make Tropicana Crunch demonstrates three things smart leaders do on a regular basis.

Smart Leaders Understand and Leverage the Times

The Tropicana team is taking advantage of the natural business calendar.  They are launching their new product on National  Orange Juice Day.  Perfect timing.  Whether you lead a church, business, non-profit, or athletic department, there are natural rhythms throughout the calendar year which you can leverage for the good of your organization.

Smart Leaders Take Calculated Risks

In 1928, I’m sure there were people who once thought combining peanut butter and chocolate was a bad idea.  H.B. Reese decided to move forward anyway with his vision for a new product.  The rest is confectionary history.

Tropicana is taking a calculated risk here.  It is great publicity and there is no downside.  This idea might actually work and if it doesn’t, it was still a noteworthy marketing idea.

Smart Leaders Do Remarkable Things

What makes something remarkable is that people are actually willing to remark about it.  When is the last time you as a leader did something worth remarking about?  When did you do something creative or outside the box?  Smart leaders are constantly shaking things up.  They do things that get people talking.

In conclusion, I don’t know about you but I’m hoping Tropicana Crunch is a success.  It would be remarkable.

The Top 75 Leadership Quotes From 2021 Part 2 is my latest ebook.  For many entering a post-pandemic environment, leadership looks completely different than the pre-pandemic world.  People are more broken now. They are more uncertain. Fear and anxiousness are unwelcome constant companions. Cultures are more unhealthy. Relationships are more dysfunctional.  Hope seems to be in short supply.  Every day seems to bring a new hacking, natural disaster, or unexpected calamity.

Therefore, the fundamentals of leadership are more important than ever. The quotes in this book deal with the basics of leadership.  If you want to be the best leader you can possibly be, click HERE or on the image provided to download this FREE resource.  The lessons learned from last year, if applied, will sustain you for years to come.
