In mid-March in the city of Changzhou (China), a toddler fell from a third-story building.  Fortunately, he landed on a second-story ledge.  However, his life was still in peril as another fall to the ground below was surely about to take place.

An unknown middle-age man happened to be passing by, saw the endangered child, and promptly leapt into action.  As you can see in the video below, he immediately scaled a pipe to the second floor, walked along the building’s edge and rescued the child.

Afterwards, the hero returned down the same pipe, blended back into the crowd, and quietly went along with his life.  At the time of the video, his identity was still unknown.  Locals began referring to him as “Spider-Man.”

5 Leadership Lessons From A Real-Life Spider-Man

The following are 5 Leadership Lessons From A Real-Life Spider-Man:

You Can Make A Big Difference With Limited Resources

Many times, leaders think they need a big team with an abundance of resources to make a difference.  Many times the opposite is true.  Scarcity sparks creativity.

All this “Spider-Man” had was his bare hands, feet, ingenuity, and a deep sense of compassion.  That was enough to save a life.

Stalling Can Result In Failure

There is a difference between sensing opportunity and seizing it.  If the man in the video above would have hesitated, the child likely would have died.

Though not life and death, I have seen countless leaders’ missions and visions fail to become reality because they stalled, hesitated, or procrastinated.  Things you say you will do “someday” rather than today rarely happen.

Skills Are Never Wasted

God never wastes experiences.  Never has, never will.  So trust your training.

I do not if this man was a gymnast, firefighter, mountain climber, or had a military background.  Whatever it may be, he had developed impressive climbing skills.

The “Spider-Man” probably never dreamed his unique talents would be called upon on that day walking down the street.

Who knows which of your unique set of skills may be called upon today?

Compassion Is Remarkable

We live it a divided world.  Cancelling people is the norm.  Whenever anyone uses their gifts, talents, and abilities to show compassion for others and perform a heroic act, it is remarkable.

The Power Of Anonymity

The identity of “Spider-Man” was unknown at that time.  One of the signs of maturity for you as a leader is when you no longer require credit for your team’s success or good deeds you may do.

What matters most to you is simply the advancement of mission and vision and the solutions provided

Conclusion

Leaders are often put into extraordinary situations.  When this happens to you, leverage your resources, trust your training, take action, and anonymously show compassion.  If you do these things, you may get labeled as a superhero as well.
