It is impossible not to enjoy the new Tom Cruise movie Mission Impossible – Fallout.  The sixth installment of the franchise is a standard day at the office for Ethan Hunt and his IMF team – motorcycle chases, airplane jumps, gun fights, hand-to-hand combat, building jumps, double-crosses, aerial acrobatics, and of course, not one but three nuclear bombs to diffuse.

There is nothing about these movies I do not enjoy.  There was one needless F-bomb from August Walker, played by Henry Cavill, but nothing risqué.  Go see this movie, get some popcorn, and have a blast enjoying what summer movies are all about.

For previous Mission Impossible movies, check out 9 Leadership Quotes and Lessons From Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and 20 Leadership Quotes and Lessons From Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

The following are 16 Leadership Quotes And Lessons from Mission Impossible – Fallout:

  1. Apex Leaders Lead By Example – In my book Timeless: 10 Enduring Practices Of Apex Leaders (see below), chapter chapter 9 is entitled Apex Leaders Lead By Example.  No one in Hollywood does this better than Cruise.  More on this later in the week, but Cruise did 106 practice jumps to prepare for the HALO scene, broke his foot jumping from one building to the next, and did his own rock climbing and helicopter stunts.  No one was more invested in this film’s success than its star.
  2. Leaders Will All Sit Down To A Banquet Of Their Own Consequences – Solomon Lane, back from the previous film played by Sean Harris, “Your mission, should you choose to accept it.  I wonder, did you ever choose not to?  The end you’ve always feared is coming.  And the blood will be on your hands.  The fallout of all your good intentions.”
  3. A Sign Of Potential Leaders Is Do They Make Things Happen? – A government agent approached Hunt and said, “Fate whispers the the warrior a storm is coming.”  To which Hunt replied, “I am the storm.”
  4. Leaders Must Make Hard Decisions – Do not sign up for leadership if you are not prepared to make hard decisions.  Early in the film Hunt had to put millions of lives at risk to save his friend Luther, played by Ving Rhames.
  5. “There cannot be peace without first a great suffering.  There greater the suffering, the greater the peace.” – As a Christian I concur with this statement.  Because Jesus Christ suffered greatly, I can have great peace.”
  6. Leaders Constantly Reevaluate Their Processes And Procedures – Luther said, “Ethan, that’s not who we are.”  To which he responded, “Maybe we need to reconsider that.”
  7. Great Leaders Must Be Willing To Make Great Personal Sacrifices For Success – Alan Hunley, played by Alec Baldwin, said, “His team would be dead.”  To which CIA Director Erica Sloan, played by Angela Bassett, pointed out, “Yes.  That’s the job.”
  8. Walker told Hunt who frequently worked without a plan, “Hope is not a strategy.”
  9. Lane said, “Terrorists are schoolboys hoping to spread propaganda through fear.”
  10. Some Of The Toughest People To Lead Are Your Family – Ilsa Faust, played by Rebecca Ferguson, said, “Family.  What can you do?”
  11. Business Is Always Personal – Walker said, “That’s the job.  No hard feelings.”
  12. Those Under Leaders Are Blessed Accordingly – Those under a great leader are greatly blessed.  Those under an evil leader are cursed.  This is true of government, business, athletics, non-profits, education, and most importantly, the family.  Hunt’s wife Julia, played by Michelle Monaghan, had her life put in danger once again because of her husband.
  13. Great Leaders Do Not Always Have To Have All The Facts.  Great Leaders Are Comfortable In Shades Of Grey. – When asked about how he was going to solve problems, Hunt continually said, “I’ll figure it out.”
  14. Great Leaders Have Great Trust – When asked about Hunt’s chances for success, Luther said, “He’ll get it done.”  This was because of his extensive track record of success.
  15. Leaders Steward Every Second Well – They understand the value of time, every second of it, and do not waste it.  As usual, Hunt conducted a last second rescue of a third of humanity.
  16. Every Life Matters – Sloan told Hunt, “We need people to care about the one life as much as you care about the millions.  That way I don’t have to.”

Once again, this is just a great movie.  Go see it and have a great time.
