We are called to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice.  In the state of Georgia where I live, we are left to live with another close loss to iconic Head Coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.  However, we could not be happier for backup quarterback Jalen Hurst who engineered a come-from-behind 35-28 victory in the SEC Championship game after being replaced in the starting lineup at the start of the season by Tua Tagovailoa.

Hurts had a 26-2 record heading into last year’s national championship game.  He was the SEC Rookie of the Year as a freshman and its Player of the Year as a sophomore.  However, Coach Saban made the most courageous leadership decision I have seen in sports by replacing an ineffective Hurts in last year’s national championship game against Georgia.  Hurts never got his starting job back.

Now 11 months later against the exact same opponent in the exact same building, Hurts was replacing an injured Tagovailoa leading the Crimson Tide to victory.  Hollywood could not even write a story this compelling.

The following are 33 Leadership Lessons From Nick Saban And Jalen Hurts On Character And Becoming A Champion I gleaned from the postgame news conference shown above.  Quotes 26 through were from Hurts’s postgame interview on the SEC Network.  Also, make sure you read the 33rd quote.  As a parent of a college junior, I want to extend my personal congratulations to Jalen on his wonderful accomplishments.
