Today I will be providing a series of posts from my annual visit to Johnny Hunt’s Mens Conference in Woodstock, GA.  This year’s theme is Game Plan.  Over 4,000 men will be live in attendance with another 25,000 attending via simulcast around the world.

Woodstock First Baptist Church’s new pastor Jeremy Morton delivered Day 2’s first main session entitled When Purity Is Not A Priority.  Jeremy is an amazing pastor, preacher and leader.  His life purpose statement: “I aim to glorify God by being a faithful husband, supportive father, loyal friend, and loving leader.”  Woodstock First Baptist’s future is in very, very good hands.  The following are 58 leadership quotes and lessons from his tour de force message on the story of David and Bathsheeba from 2 Samuel 11:1-27:

  3. Pastor (Hunt), thanks for doing this for 27 years.
  4. It can be a curse to meet your heroes… To know him (Johnny)… he’s even more impressive behind the scenes than he is on the stage.
  5. May everyone say about you that you are the real deal.
  6. Nobody is beyond the reach of God’s grace.
  7. He has public authority because of his passion to walk with God behind the scenes.
  8. My favorite thing about Pastor Johnny is he is vigilant about personal holiness.
  9. The best status symbol in life is a long marriage.
  10. Half of my peers from bible college and seminary are no longer in the ministry. I’m 37.
  11. The overwhelming majority is because of promiscuity, pornography and a lack of self-control.
  12. This is a fight.
  13. Do you know what my wife and children need from me more than anyone else, the world needs to see men who are holy.
  14. What they need is a daddy who lives what he says he believes.
  15. David was the best of all the men in Israel.But at best, David was still just a man.
  16. When purity isn’t priority, everything unravels… but when we walk in purity and holiness, it’s a clear testimony to the power of Jesus.
  17. Proverbs 5 – A man should be enthralled with his wife.
  18. David had a dangerous mixture of present success and absence of trial.
  19. David wasn’t desperate for God.His affair begins when he was a place he wasn’t supposed to be and he lingered there.
  20. You cannot sleep with your neighbor’s wife and not regret it.
  21. Son, don’t fall in love with a Proverbs 7 woman.We’re praying for a Proverbs 31 woman.
  22. He saw. He sent.  He took her. He sleeps with her.  The King of Israel treated a girl for his own satisfaction.
  23. The same culture that celebrates the MeToo movement also celebrates Fifty Shades of Grey. How dysfunctional we are without Christ!
  24. David’s behavior displeased God. David showed no grief, no tears, no remorse.
  25. God sees what we’re not able to see. God was not pleased with this thing.  This thing broke the heart of God.
  26. What we are all capable when we take our eyes off the Lord. We must stay shockingly aware of our ability to sin.
  27. An unguarded weakness + an unexpected opportunity means you will commit any sin anyone else has ever done.
  28. Sexual sin will make you manipulate circumstances.
  29. Adultery and pornography make you stupid.
  30. When we don’t focus on holiness we don’t have anything. But when we focus on purity God gives us everything.
  31. Never exchange your morals for pleasure.
  32. The hook is in the look.
  33. It’s amazing how seriously God takes sexual purity.Even Hollywood puts disclaimers on movies.
  34. If your iPhone causes you to sin, downgrade to a flip phone.
  35. She’s not for your pleasure. She’s made in the image of God.  You should practice self-control because of your honor.
  36. If you see a woman who rings your bell, grab your bell and don’t let it ring.
  37. Perhaps sexual sin is fun in the moment but we regret it later.
  38. You ain’t special because you can hook up with someone who isn’t your wife.
  39. One man, one woman, in a monogamous sexual relationship. That’s the holiness of Christ.
  40. Proverbs 20:11 – even a young man is known by his behavior.
  41. If you’re not married, don’t be doing married people stuff.
  42. Single people need to have the testimony of being holy.
  43. There’s no confidentiality in message.
  44. David, you can fight a war but can you guard your own heart?
  45. Lead your house with truth and grace.
  46. Teenagers and young people need to be holy.
  47. Single adults, divorced adults and all unhitched adults need to be holy.
  48. Marriage couples need to be holy.
  49. Senior adults need to be holy.
  50. The blood of Jesus cleanses all sin.
  51. When David got it wrong, he got it right by repenting.
  52. If you cover your sins, you will not prosper.
  53. Sin is a really, really big deal. The only thing bigger than sin is Jesus and His grace.

Adultery and fornication is a big deal because…

  1. Sin to God.
  2. Sin to your spouse. There is no such thing as casual sex.  It’s a holy beautiful gift assigned for a specific time and space.
  3. Sin to your kids. The kids are always embarrassed because of sexual sin.  Your kid knows its wrong.
  4. Sin against the church. We are putting ammunition in the devil’s gun and saying, “Shoot us.”
  5. Sin against yourself. Adultery always over-promises and under-delivers.  Only Jesus delivers what he promises.
