I am spending a lot of my thinking time on the subject of culture.  There are just some of the questions I am focusing on:

  1. What makes up a healthy culture?
  2. What is the role of leadership in healthy cultures?
  3. What are the proper behaviors of leaders and how does this affect culture?
  4. What are the best practices in employee acquisition regarding culture?

Alan Stein Jr.’s new book Raise Your Game: High-Performance Secrets from the Best of the Best has become a valuable resource for me in this area.  Above you see how I tore apart the first page in the chapter on culture.  Trust me, much of the remainder of the chapter looks the same.

The following are 17 Signs Of A Healthy Church, Team Or Business Culture I gleaned from the page above:

  1. In A Healthy Culture Great Ideas Are Happening – “The role of a leader is to create an environment in which great ideas can happen.” – Simon Sinek
  2. A Healthy Culture Happens On The Ground – “Culture begins on the ground.”
  3. A Healthy Culture Has A Definition – “Culture is the collective values, beliefs, behaviors, and environment of a team, group, or organization.”
  4. A Healthy Culture Grows Organically – “A positive culture grows organically”
  5. A Healthy Culture Is Inspirational – “everyone feels inspired”
  6. People Feel Safe In A Healthy Culture – “safe”
  7. People Feel Appreciated In A Healthy Culture – “appreciated”
  8. People Feel Like They Make A Difference In A Healthy Culture – “Those who are part of a successful culture feel that their contribution… matter”
  9. People Feel They Matter In A Healthy Culture – “Those who are part of a successful culture feel that their role matter”
  10. People Are Challenged In A Healthy Culture – “they are being challenged”
  11. A Healthy Culture Is A Growth Culture – “to grow and develop”
  12. People Feel They Can’t Be Replaced In A Healthy Culture – “that they couldn’t just be replaced”
  13. People Become The Best Versions Of Themselves In A Healthy Culture – “the fertile ground for people to become the best versions of themselves.”
  14. Healthy Cultures Do Not Just Happen – “doesn’t just appear”
  15. Healthy Cultures Have Healthy Leaders – “requires someone at the helm”
  16. Healthy Cultures Must Be Developed – “who is committed to developing”
  17. Healthy Cultures Must Be Maintained – “and maintaining that culture.”

Alan’s book is an incredible resource for leaders.  I recommend picking up a copy as he unpacks these culture concepts later in the chapter.  You can do so by clicking HERE or on the images provided.
